I'm getting New Bike Feedback please!

#1 Unread post by cyork »

Hi everyone - first post to the site :) I am 36 and have been out of riding for over 10 years. I started riding at 8 on dirt bikes and had one sport bike a CBR 600 for a year. When I moved the bike was sold. I'm enrolled in a riders class in September for 3 days and will have my motorcycle license again. I am interested in a sport cruiser and my current list of interest is the following.

Kawasaki Mean Streak
Kawa 900 custom
Yamaha Warrior
Yama V star 1300

Considering I havent ridden in so long should I even consider the Mean Streak and Warrior at this time? These are my two top choices at this point but I continuing my research first.

I'll be riding about 1 day a week to work 25 mile round trip and 100 miles maybe 200 on nice weekends. Thoughts on any of these bikes and experiences would be appreciated.
Thanks
chris

Are those sport cruisers?
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Nah Sev, called "Performance Cruisers" Also, yeah, the Warrior and Mean Streak are probably a bit outta your league if you've been outta the game for 10 years. Keep in mind that the power/cc ratio has increased dramatically since then too. 1300 might be a little bigger than you want, but the 900 shouldn't be a problem for you!

Thanks - my terminology is off but what I like about the warrior and meanstreak is they have an aggressive look and body style. The V Star 1300 and Kawasaki Vulcan 900 I beleive are more standard cruisers. Do you have thoughts on these bikes?

The warrior is the most powerful bike on that list. I would scratch that one off. The other 3 are good choices.

The Vulcan 900 would probably be the best choice for a re-entry rider since it is the lightest of the bunch you mentioned.
