If you try to get one "do it all" jacket you're going to end up with one jacket you never wear.btlegend wrote:i want a riding jacket that with rain proof, armor, cold protection, and wont swaet my "O Ring" off in this texas heat,...l have an eye on a leather one with zip out liner, or just go mesh, like tour master....what do you think
Get a hot weather mesh armored jacket, then another more protective jacket, possibly with a zip out liner, that you can wear in colder weather.

I wear the FirstGear Mesh-Tex 3 jacket and matching Mesh-Tex 2 pants. They zip together in the back. The jacket comes with a wind-breaker liner which is nice on cool mornings. I like the jacket a lot. I like the pants a little less. It is a hot weather outfit that feels very comfortable when you're rolling along, but heats up quickly if you're sitting in the sun without a breeze.

I wear a Cortek GX-Air (Tourmaster). It's a mesh and armour outer jacket with zip out rain liner and zip out thermal liner. It's an all in one jacket that I wear everytime I ride. I've owned it for 14 months and have no regrets.

If you lived in MAINE, that would be possible. But in Texas, where the sumers are HOT and the winters can be pretty cold, you're gonna need two jackets. Think textile. More cost efficient.
For now, get something in mesh. Then find a "three season" jacket with a zip out rain/thermal liner, and zipper vents, for the other seasons.
Living in MD, where the summers are not only hot but HUMID, and the winters can be quite cold. I've got mesh for summer, a spring/fall jacket with zipper vents, plus a "winter" jacket that has a rain liner, plus a thermal liner.

I know it's a little late ... but when you are ready to upgrade, consider getting a fully perforated leather jacket with a zip out liner.
I live in Houston and have ridden with a Vanson perforated jacket and man ... it seriously felt like I was wearing a tee shirt at speed ... when stopped however ... I was cooking ... but the thought of the extra protection of leather over textile was a selling point.
