I've got an '06 Honda VLX 600 with a little over 3k miles, 300 of which I've put on since buying it last month.
Last night I was taking a short hop and didn't put in earplugs or earphones like I normally do, and noticed a new noise. It was a hollow sounding echo/rattle/rumble that was coming from somewhere forward of my seated position. It would come and go when the throttle was revved. It was independent of motion. I didn't see any parts loose and couldn't localize it after arriving at my location. Kinda unnerved me as I didn't want parts falling off or breaking while I was riding.
Here comes the possible cause. I was almost on reserve, so I filled up on the way home and the sound changed pitch with a full gas tank. It's now a barely audible vibration/rumble with throttle applied. Was it just the empty gas tank, and the lack of plugs allowed me to notice it this time? Or do I have something else going on? I'm planning on taking it to get the inspection tomorrow and could have it looked at.
Anything else I need to be concerned about or have checked?

Strange noise, possible cause?
I think it may be a combination of an empty gas tank and the little plastic clippy for my tank bag. This was the first time I was riding without the tank bag after installing the clip for it. I didn't notice it while commuting to work yesterday or back home today and the only difference was I had the tank bag installed.
