Trouble with my wife...
Trouble with my wife...
ok ok... [snip] Im looking at getting my first bike and she is completely against it... acts like Im going to die right after I buy it... Ive taken the safety course, am licensed, and looking at a cruiser bike under 600cc... I plan on being very cautious until I get comfortable on the road... Ive gotten a good jacket and gloves, helmet and overpants coming soon...
she claims she trusts me, its just that she doesnt trust all the other drivers... any help and suggestions on how I should approach her with this... fyi, we've been married for 4 years and we have a 2 y/o daughter as well so its just not the two of us...
the other thing is Ive found a great deal (assuming its mechanically sound) for a used Kawi Vulcan 500 that Id like to jump on... moneys in the bank, just need a buddy to look it over for me... grrr...
thanks in advance...

I'm not really sure what you're asking here.
Do you want to know something about the bike?
Or is it about the whole wifey thing? And if so, grab hold of your balls and tell her you're getting a bike whether she likes it or not.

I took my wife along to look at bikes with me. I also discussed the information I found here. She helped me pick out my bike and my protective gear. I promised to wear all the gear every time no matter how short or long the trip and no matter what the temperature. And I do.
Basically, I'm recommending that you get her involved in the process. It definitely helped with my wife.
Good Luck!

What you have here is a jealous wife. She feels that if you get the bike, that will be the last she sees of you every night and weekend.
Of course she's exactly right, so what you do is can the 600 idea and pick up a good cruiser so you can take her out a few times. Then you leave her at home..

You guys saying divorce is the answer are stupid.
He says money is in the bank now, well it won't be if d-i-v-o-r-c-e is the option he goes with
The better ways is to sit her down, get right to the matter of why she hates them or does not want to participate and work at settling those fears. Keep her involved, ask for her help, talk about doing rides together. Try to get her as on board as you can about it.

Re: Trouble with women...
Does she let you cross the street by yourself? I don't mean to be a smart butt about it, but come on. She does have a point, but these types of risks are around us all the time regardless of a motorcycle or not.jbprince wrote:

Involving her in the process and increasing your life insurance might help get her accustomed to the idea. The Vulcan 500 is a great bike, a friend of mine has one and loves it. I got started on an 800 classic myself.
By the way I'm also married and I have 3 kids....
