Hi, I'm a new rider and new to the forums. I completed the MSF course about 3 weeks ago. Buying my first bike this weekend; a 1995 Suzuki GS500E. Looking forward to riding. Anyone here ride a GS500? Any tips or comments?

Howdy and welcome to the forum. We have several members that ride GS 500s. GSJack comes to mind. The only tip I have today is homemade Chinese mustard is very hot...but oh so good.

People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Congrats and welcome! The GS500 is an excellent bike - good decision! I got to ride one at my MSF course and I loved it. Actually almost bought one a couple of years ago but it never panned out at the time.

My tip for you - eat ginger before traveling to reduce motion sickness.

Andrea :)

Hi there,
I am going to check out a '04 GS500F tomorrow. I just checked out a Kawasaki 500 Ninja and I really liked it. Initially I thought it would be too much for me, but I got used to it within 5 minutes and really liked it. It is powerful and sporty, yet not too sporty. I'll let you know what I think of the GS tomorrow.
Take care,
Dani

I got my GS500 on Sunday! Turns out the title says it's a '96. It's in great condition. My boyfriend took me to a parking lot so I could ride it around a little. It's a great bike, just got to work on my skills and get more comfortable with it before hitting the roads.

Haven't had a chance to take any good photos, but I'll post them once I do.
Spending this week running around getting insurance and getting it registered.

Dani, my boyfriend races an EX500 and suggested a 250 for me. I like the GS better because its a little more upright and the handle bars are a little wider than on the sport bikes. Just suits my comfort level as a beginner.

Is this your first bike you're looking for? Did you take the MSF course?

I took the MSF course about 12 years ago. I had a Honda CX650C (more of a standard) back then for about 5 years. I have ridden since I sold it (I moved to snowy Buffalo and did not have a garage). So, it is not my first bike, but I am a bit rusty. I liked the Ninja 500 a lot - the seat and the distance to the handlebars/pegs/ground is perfect for me. I am only 5'8" and 150lbs. I tried sitting on some other bikes. The GS500F (the sporty one) seems bigger to me, though I didn't specifically look at the specs. I ended up not going to Kingston to check the Suzuki and I just decided to go wit the Ninja. I checked out some more bikes by sitting on them at GBM in Arlington and the Kawasaki felt the best. I also liked the SV650 naked bike, but it was way too expensive for me. It was new. I can't wait to get my bike this Friday! Dani

Welcome fellow masshole. Just wondering, where'd you take the MSF?

And a tip. The best tip for any MA rider. All the best roads are in Western Mass
