Cycle World has a comparo of several fast bikes this month, titled "Speedwagons", and the much-touted K1200S was very average, pulling a 167mph top speed and doing the 1/4 in 10.96. Yawn. It weighs 541 pounds dry, too. Oink. It costs $19893. Holy bankruptcy! But if ya gotta have the fastest BMW....
You will still get clobbered by lots of old Japanese bikes.

To me, and most likely the average biker, THAT FRICKEN FAST man!

Take a look at my bikes stats vs. the K1200s

1982 XJ650R / 2005 K1200S

1/4 mile: 12.78 / 10/96
Weight: 503 (full) / 541 (dry)
Top speed: 127 / 167

Why do you want to go any faster? I can already accelerate 0-60 in 4.8 seconds... does doing it in 1 less second going to make the traffic go any faster? ;)

It is fast enough, to be sure. However, the reality doesn't come close to the hype. This was promoted early on to be a 12R and Busa beater, and it's not even close. The issue is truth in advertising, I suppose. It costs almost twice what my CBR1100XX did, the BMW has a 12 mph lower top speed , and the XX was as good or better quality-wise, if this BMW is like the '94 I had. For the money this BMW costs, it ought to be something really special, which it isn't, at the end of the day.
You and I ride old bikes, Mike, and it's a whole different point of view than the potential buyer of one of the new "speedwagons" has. Being old, I wouldn't buy any of them, but speed still fascinates me, probably always will.
