2003 Ninjia EX250 High Rev Problem

#1 Unread post by sushimixy2k »

I recently bought my bike used that has sitting for the past 2 years (3k miles). I am having idling problems. The bike must have full choke and if you give it a little throttle or take off the choke, it dies. I have also tried warming up the bike for several minutes with no prevail.

So, I took out the carbs, cleaned them, rebuilt them, and reinstalled them back onto the bike. I found no residual inside the carbs and they were pretty clean. I have also checked the gas tank for any rust but the tank is pretty clean.

After putting back the bike together, the bike wants to rev between 5-6k! The needle just bounces every so slight up and down. Once in a while, it will drop down to 3k and then back up to the 5-6k range. I have checked all the air hoses and the air filter is in place. I have also tried adjusting the idle but I cannot find a happy medium where the bike either revs high or dies.

Any suggestions? When I built the carbs, is it possible that I got the number of turns off on the jets when I rebuilt the carbs? A air leak that I don't know of? Is it just worth taking it to the shop and have them figure it out? If I take it to the shop, would it be safe for the bike to rev high when I ride it for the short distance?

I would pull the tank and take a good look inside, pull and clean / replace the fuel filter. Check the petcock if your bike has one. If that doesn't help I would recheck the jet settings, resync the carbs. Also double check the carb boots for cracks and replace if needed.

Yeah check those boots real good, and any vacuum lines. I've had a few do that to me when there was a vacuum issue. Malfunction with the egr type system Kaw has used in the past will do the same thing.
