Performance air-filter

#1 Unread post by fenriz »

Hi everyone
A friend wants to know if it'll be worth it to install a K&N performance airfilter on is 1997 GS500E? Exactly how is it different from the stock filter?

Thanks.

I took the stock filter out of my 1984 vf1000f interceptor last year and replaced it with the K&N. I didn't notice a bunch of extra power but it does have a better response time I found. You just gotta maintain it regularly.

It really isn't a big difference if the rest of the bike is stock. If you get performance exhaust and jet kit/new fuel map, then it would be needed for the system to get power. Like mswarrior said, you'll most likely just notice a little better response.

Maintenance on the K&N is practically nonexistent. If you live in a very dusty area some service might be required in a few years. I have never cleaned and re-oiled one, even after 30,000 miles on one bike. Air flow tests of K&N vs. stock show little or no difference, but the lack of maintenance is the big thing with K&N.

Your results may vary, and size does matter.
