I need to find a service manual for the 2004 Yamaha 50cc scooter I just picked up for my wife. To prepare it for the winter, I filled it up with fuel, added StaBil, and filled the 2-stroke oil reservoir. I would like to remove or at least access the battery, so I can maintain the charge through the winter. The owner's manual does not mention servicing the battery. I removed the obvious cover in the front under the saddle, but there is only a small opening with a profusion of rubber bits and wires there. I'm afraid to dig too deep. Surely something as large as a battery is not buried too deep to see? Must be hidden somewhere else?
Suggestions would be appreciated, both on battery location and source for cheap service manual.

[ turns out it is under the saddle under the front cover, but it is tiny and concealed by a plastic shroud, so I did not recognize what it was ]
