This reminds me of Kaneda's bike in the film Akira...

When I look at it I feel like listening to CCR or other 60's/ 70's rock music.

Fuel economy. Read the article.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Yeah. I saw that, but even in the early 80's alternative ways to fuel effecient vehicles were being explored.

He spent a ton of time and assumably $$ figuring out how to basically double his mileage on an already effecient fossil fueled vehicle....

I get 70-80MPG on my stock bike.

Oh - AND his looks like a scooter.

Apparently, there is a live action verison of "Akira" coming out in summer '09, so I guess we'll be seing a working version of that bike. Or maybe not, considering how much CGI animation is used in movies these days. Myself, I'd love to see a working version of that bike. I've loved that movie since the first time I saw it.

Since we are already on the subject, and I havent found anyone else who has seen this movie: I watched the movie once a few months ago, and had a hard time following all of the details. Is the manga worth exploring for a more detailed storyline?

Also, looking at the bike again, it seems like it is 2 parts, the front where the computer console (and probably the engine) is, and the rear where the back tire is. It doesnt seems like it could tilt over very far without scraping, which wouldnt give it very good handling. Also, I would think itd be incredibly hard to get any sort of drivetrain from the front to the back without the use of maybe a chain. But then, I dont know that much about bike mechanics.
