I'm about to buy my first motorcycle. I took the MSF class in 2005 and passed it, but never went any further than that.
There are really only two reasons I want to ride, and those are to save money on gas and insurance, and to be able to access any sort of terrain so that whenever I have a few days free and I'm sick of civilization, I can throw some basic camping gear into my saddlebags along with a book/flashlight and disappear. Cosmetics and top speed are irrelevant. I just want a reliable, low-maintenance tank that'll roll through anything.
A dual sport would seem to be the obvious choice, especially because in addition to meeting all the needs I just mentioned, they're apparently great for tall riders. My heart keeps pining for the KLR650, but it's somewhat tough to find them used. The most I want to spend is $3000, and hopefully it'll be well under that.
So that was a long-winded way of getting to my point: there's a Suzuki DR350SE going for $1800 in my local classifieds. Anyone have experience with one, esp. tall riders? Seat-to-handlebar distance, seat-to-footpeg distance, etc?
Suzuki DR350SE a good bike for a 6'6", long-legged ride
