Okay, not a bike topic, but maybe someone can help.
I run Vista (insert appropriate rude comment/swear word here) on both my laptop and desktop and today I picked up M/S Combat Flight Simulator 3 coz sometimes I am in the mood of a little mindless gratuitous violence and mayhem.
Anyways, the game plays the intro movie no problem and goes to the menu screen okay, however it crashes and shuts down as soon as I try to go into any of the options, ie quick missions or set up.
Any ideas? Or have I been basically been rogered once again by Bill Gates and Co?

Are you trying to run it on your desktop or the laptop? Check the game specs and make sure your video can handle it. Also make sure you have enough memory. Did you get any type of error message?
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

To me it sounds like a video card issue probably
Most of the intro movies are done in BINK, which is basically a mpeg kind of movie which doesn't require any special video drivers. But the game itself probably requires a 3d accelerator.
Do you know what graphics card you have?

Funnily enough, I tried "fix" recommended on the MS tech site and lost my sound card and joystick function but the game played okay, just couldn't use my controller, so I said bugger this, reset the system back to the way it was and not only got my sound and joystick functions back, but the game now plays. So I am having fun shooting all manner of German and American aircraft out of the sky in my Vampire Jet. LOL....isn't unlimited the unlimited ammo/fuel and invincible options fun?

Always ask why.
