Was your pressure low before? (Below mfg spec?)baltimorebayside wrote:I use it in my 96 Chevy pickup......increased my oil pressure, truck runs great and it works especially good in the cold winters during start ups....
I wouldn't use it in a bike.,..

Higher pressure, assuming your original pressure was within spec, means the oil is having more difficulty getting to the engine.
1. More pressure than design usually means the oil pressure relief in the pump is opening.
2. More pressure means the oil filter has a greater pressure drop. this causes the bypass to open and allow unfiltered oil into your engine.
3. More pressure means a bigger pressure drop throughout the passages, which means less flow and less oil cooling.
Now if you put a larger oil pump, more pressure would mean more flow. You would also want to use an oil filter with a higher bypass pressure drop rating.
For instance, if you put 90 weight gear oil in your engine, the pressure would be very high, yet the volume of oil making it through the smaller passages would be less because of higher viscosity.
So higher pressure isn't necessarily a sign of improved lubrication. It may even be a sign of lower lubrication and less cooling.

It increased my oil pressure, but not past OEM specs...The truck has over 113,000 miles on it and the pressure has dropped over the years....
So, this Lucas stuff just sort of keeps the pressure where it should be.
I mainly got it to reduce cold starts in the winter.....before my valves would tap until the oil got circulated and the engine warmed up a bit.....Now, in the winter I don't have any problems with that.
The reason I wouldn't use it for a motorcycle.......I feel just using the recommended oil and change interval is sufficient.........
