Have you ever noticed...

That Memorial day is like throwing a switch on ridiculous behavior that will last until Labor day?

I drive a truck for a living, mostly on surface streets and rural roads. I can tell you that there has been an accident in this tiny city (20,000)every day since Memorial day weekend started. Yesterday an SUV hit a motorcycle at a four-way stop. I can't even begin to describe some of the bad driving I see this time of year. Everything from utter disregard for others, to over-polite, insecure, unpredictable driving. People waving you on when they have the right of way, and causing accidents while doing it. People simply stealing the right of way from others and causing accidents while doing it. People oblivious to everything except the cell phone in their hand, while they dial and cross the center line into oncoming traffic. People lighting cigarettes and swerving all over the road. People throwing cigarettes out at passing motorcyclists. People mowing their grass and throwing it all over the road, causing johnny trans-am to swerve around the grass clippings to keep his car shiney, while almost hitting the approaching garbage truck. I guess I can just begin to describe it...

While none of this is a surprise, it does remeind me to put extra space between me and the car in front of me, so I might escape the car behind me. The cell phone driving is getting so far out of hand, and school is out too (at least here, it is), so everybody please be extra careful.
Ride safe...God bless!

i Really wanted to go riding last sunday, a friend had the long weekend and was eager to do some long riding with me. but i could not bring myself to do it. the number of accidents is just insane, drunk drivers every where. also cops pulling you ever for random checks(i support that, but being pulled over every few miles by different cops gets old fast).

the number of young drivers around too now with no school adds to things also. my sister was just in a minor fender bender caused by a young driver. noone was hurt but my sister is paying around 4 grand in car damage now for a 5mph bump.

I ride 90 miles a day, to and from work. What your describing to me is business as usual.

Luckily I live in a rural area, so when I leave the city limits its all backroads home, for the most part I'm alone, except for the occasional tractor.

90 miles is a serious commute. I thought I was doing good with 35.
