Any sober types here? I wouldn't be on a bike without sobriety. I would be too afraid.

Well I'm sober, but not in the way you're thinking of, just never been drunk... Probably one of very few on this board! lol

Since I'm too weak-willed to avoid drinking, I just separate drinking and riding. At least 12 hours from bottle to throttle.

My wife and I have zero-tolerance policy for ourselves for motorcycles and alcohol. Skier's 12-hour rule is good - if I take a drink, there's no more motorcycling that day. Period. No exceptions. Don't particularly care to ride with others who mix bikes and booze, either.

I should clarify my stance: 12 hours from drinking to riding is what I aim for, but there are time where one is drinking at 10 PM and rides to work at 7 AM, not quite twelve hours but enough to get two drinks out of my system.

I don't often drink - maybe ten times in a year (and sometimes I go for years without. ) When I do indulge, it has quite an effect. That means I never drink very much.

When I do drink, I don't ride. Period.

I'm not a purist about this - it's up to people to make their own judgements, but there are a lot of alchies in my family so I have complicated feelings about it.

I've only ever been drunk three times in my life - the most recent occasion was last Saturday. Oooops! Going out riding? Err.. Riding? what's that big yellow thing in my back garden?

I know a guy who knew he was too drunk to ride, but he didn't want to leave his bike there for it to get stolen. So he did the most logical thing, he chained himself to the bike and then passed out. True story, I still need to get the pictures of him.

As for me, I still can't legally drink but I don't think I will (but I have before). Of course, a lot can happen in 3 years.

I'm a drunk, not an alcoholic. Alcoholics go to meetings. (Sorry for making light of it, if there are any alcoholics around, good luck with recovery).

I won't drink and drive or ride. I don't do bars with the bike, and only in a car if someone (me or one of the people I'm with) isn't going to drink anything but soda.

The main parties I go to at someone elses' house when we do bonfires or whatever, I've got a free pass to crash there, so I tend to get a little more drunk at such events. I think they keep me around as the life of the party. Same with camping since I don't have anyplace to go except meandering around the campgrounds with a fifth of bourbon sippin' on it.

You won't find anyone who makes more light of it than recovering alcoholics.
