Best I-Pod Mini-Stereo for the money?

#1 Unread post by High_Side »

I'm looking to finally pick-up an I-Pod now that my old MP3 player has died. I'd like to get all of the toys for it so can anyone tell me of a great sounding mini-stereo with an I-Pod dock for < $500? I'm looking for something with a nice warm sound, yet partable enough that it can be carried out to the patio. I've gotta be one of the last people to finally own one of these things....

This is probably less than helpful because it's not a mini-stereo, but the best sound I've gotten out of my iPod is with a BOSE iPod speaker. The sound quality is absolutely amazing and it's small enough I can carry it from one room to another.

Only bad thing about it is the price--$300. If Santa hadn't brought me mine, I might have never gotten one.

Spouse Thingy has an iHome clock radio iPod player; sound is decent and it does have AM/FM radio. It's just not as good as the BOSE, though...

Thanks Thumper. I had a look at the Bose I-Pod speaker yesterday (about a foot long with a slight curve to it), but they weren't set up to demo it. Here in Canuckistan they go for $350 so it's definitely in the running. The salesman tried to up-sell me to a Harman / Kardon that he claimed was much better, but again - no demo. It's good to hear that you like your Bose set-up as that is the way that I am leaning right at the moment.

I second the Bose. I searched and experimented with several other systems before settling on the Bose. Only one came close and to be honest, I forgot which one it was, since it was over a year ago. But the Bose is tops.
