Met my First Jerk on the road today.

#1 Unread post by CYNWAGON »

Today I went out by myself, got all ready to ride. We live in an acreage subdivision with small roads and it's usually pretty quiet.
I pull out the driveway, cruising along (the posted speed is 50km/h) which I was doing. I noticed a steel grey SUV behind me. I got to the stop sign to turn right onto a larger road (80km/h). I stopped, apparently that pissed him off. He pulled up beside me. I pulled out and turned right and so did he.... in the WRONG lane to pass me while I'm turning!!! I sped up as I normally would because there was no one coming. He must have been doing 110 to get past me..... was this necessary??? It's a nice straight road with lots of time to pass AFTER turning!
I need to find out where he lives and let my english mastiff go to the bathroom on his lawn!
Sorry - just had to vent! :x

Better yet, get your mastiff to gnaw on his arse for a bit, then do his business.
Always ask why.

you can sneak up and put one of those bumper stickers on his/her truck saying I'm an a#% watch out for me....call state patrol.
Glad you kept your witts and rode safe. Funny though I had that happen to me not too long ago and it was motorcyclists...really got my goat.
I follow a new highway I haven't traveled before.

Yeah, there are plenty of idiots on the road - glad you were able to keep aware of what he was doing to keep yourself informed. If you expect everyone to be no funs, you'll be pleasantly surprised once in a while that someone does the right thing

I finally used the tip someone mentioned of flipping a tailgater off on saturday. I mean I was following a semi so I couldnt go faster than the thing and there was no passing lanes. the car behind me was like 2 feet from my tire so I raised my hand (yes we were on a curve) and flipped the birdie. Backed right off afterwards :D.

LOL nice.

I had a tailgater one day and I had just been fresh off of reading a post here about waving tailgaters back. Well I in no mistaken fashion waved off a tailgater behind me and they immediately fell back. I was nice to see quick hop to

well the funny thing is that person was in such a hurry to pass me but when we got on the highway they werent willing to do 80mph like I was (thats how fast I normally ride when its safe to do so on the highway). But then I got off on an off ramp to get gas. Following a car onto the highway. Semi got over so we could get on and I stayed over to the right to stay in the truckers line of site and the dude just started going over without looking after the car passed him. I could see the guy in his mirror so I know he coulda saw me if he would have looked. I ended up going onto those wake up rivet things on the side just so I wouldnt get run over.

Hi,

fortunately, that's not very common in our neck of woods.

One thing I learned is that on the bike, one must be ready to fast forgive and forget. In case like yours, after seeing that the guy is in a hurry, I'd wait for him to clear an intersection first.

My experience on the roads so far is that people for the most part don't mean harm to motorcyclist - they are just reckless, clueless and self indulged. Quite often, just a sign to back off would deter a tailgater because they actually, by that moment had no clue they were doing something wrong.

However, I will start carrying spark plugs for the people who come behind me on the ramp merging to major highway, and then pass me from behind before solid lines change into doted ones. That's the most critical moment when I'm trying to establish that it's safe to merge based on vehicles already on the highway and I don't need jerk from behind startling me as I just start merging. For the locals, that would be most ramps to Whitemud.
