LOTS of firsts today!!

#1 Unread post by CYNWAGON »

My husband went out for a few hours today and while we were having coffee he mentioned that I should try some new stuff today. I've been riding for 3 weeks, 1000km on the bike.
I did my first 3 lane Highway today. :D
I did my first set of twisties going down into the river valley and back up :D
I drove on gravel to get to the lake to visit for a bit...
Didn't like that very much.
Now we're going to go down a new road to have dinner an hour away - lots of sweeing curves!

Awesome Awesome Day! :D

you think riding on gravel is bad try riding on sand. Now thats a challenge. I am talking soft sand not that hard packed down driven over a gazillion times sand.

Either way good job on learning some new 'ways" :D.

The only really stressful part of the day was when we got to the hills. Just as I was preparing for the first curve, I looked in my mirrors and realized another bike had come up behind us. Now you have to realize in Alberta, good twisties are few and far between. This is also a back highway with not a lot of traffic, so it's a popular local route. I felt very bad that I hadn't seen him earlier, I would have pulled over, so he could pull ahead and enjoy them at his pace, not mine. I went around the first curve fine. As I was approaching the second curve on a steep grade I see the cyclists, some coming up and I could see some starting to coem into the valley on the other side. I didn't freak out even when some of them were in my lane, but I did let off the throttle a little. When I knew I had cleared the cyclists, I relaxed a little going up the valley and was actually picking up some speed by the end of it.
I felt so bad that he had to sit behind the "newb" on the fun part but he must have realized, the training session going on in front of him because when he passed, he gave me a big smile and a thumbs up! :D
I gave him a slightly enthusiastic biker wave!
It made me feel a little better that I got a thumbs up instead of a birdie!
PS If the biker that was behind me reads this - thanks for the encouragement!

Not every one wants to fly through the twisties, some like to casually glide through them and enjoy them...Feel them. Kinda like an old saying...Sure a quickie is good but, take it slow and easy, You can..........(finish it your way).
I follow a new highway I haven't traveled before.

if your on a bike you shouldnt NEVER be in a hurry to reach ANY destination.

For example my wife and I went on a 400 mile ride with some friends. took us 13 hours to do that 400 mile ride because we were in no hurry. Stopped quite a few times etc etc.
