Time to put your bike away for winter

#1 Unread post by Galamb »

Well, it is that time of the year again. Started to winterize my bike. It calls for cold weather for tomorow with rain. Yesterday was the last ride for the season with 20 C . Can hardly wait for spring ! :D

We're headed to lower elevations of the Sierra Nevada's (California) tomorrow, but we will likely hit rain and, maybe, snow and ice. Riding all year round can have some drawbacks...

I ride year round here in NE Ohio, just need a little faith in the weather man to make sure you'll get back home.

Yah, I spent last weekend buttoning up the bikes for the winter. Sta-Bil, quick run around the block, fresh oil, filters, clean and gap the plugs.

They look so forlorn out there in the shed, big chain and padlock thru the back tires, plastic bags over the pipes to keep the critters out.

Later that afternoon, the first flakes came in off the lake.

One, two, three, four, five months until I can even think about getting mine out again. Bummer. I hate living in Chicago.

I just need to pick up some winter gloves and I'll be good to go. Sports gloves ventilation are great during 105 degree weather, but after 15 min in the winter I end up with frozen claws instead of hands.

WINTERIZE?!?!?! The ninja won't be down long enough to justify winterizing it  It'll sleep through most of December into February. I'll change the oil in the spring and ride it. And it'll probably be ridden at least once over the cold months. Going to have to test out the lighting modifications I plan on making

I think I'll get the bike out now and run over to church. (I'm a church organist, have to practice for tomorrow). It's up to 36 out, 13 miles on a naked bike shouldn't be too bad, and there's no snow anywhere within 80 miles of here.....

The V-strom or my wife's Trophy would be warmer, but the Bonneville needs to be run!!

<<edit>> 3 hours later: I'm baaaack! Gee, that was invigorating. Those weather people lied, the snow's here now.
