Definately read those.
I've also found this to be a good source of information.

Hmmm...slow?big_guy_2006 wrote:all i hear about kawasaki ninja's are is they are slow
You should have watched the AMA Supersport race that was at Road America this past weekend. Tommy and Roger Hayden finished first and second and were over 4 seconds ahead of 3rd place! They both ride ZX-6RR Ninjas.
Total domination.

You might want to consider a cruiser instead of a sportbike. Or a UJM for that matter. The upright, or laid back seating position will be more comfortable in the long run for someone of your proportions. However if you're interested in merely looking like the coolest thing out there, take a ninja 500 or something similar.huh wrote:you might what to look at the yamaha yzf600r (not r6) or the honda cbr600 f4i (not cbr600rr) yammi will cheaper but no less funbig_guy_2006 wrote:hey guys im new here and im just getting my permit. im wondering on wut kind of bike i want to get. i dont want something expensive or big and fast, im looking at a street bike althought i really do love harley's. all i hear about kawasaki ninja's are is they are slow but i dont care i want something to ride and aint big. so im wondering would like a ninja be good or maybe even a honda cbr600. i dont want anything bigger than a 600, but i want something that is gonna last and does have some speed so when im more experienced ill have some fun. im 6'1" 200lbs and am fairly strong i dont really lift anymore tho. so guys any help on a bike would be great, i dont want an older bike tho i want something aggressive looking. thanks - andy

If you're looking to be hamburger try a cbr, or gixxer.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Haha trust me buddy, do NOT get a CBR600 or any other 600cc sportbike for that matter! You have no experience on a motorcycle, I would consider that you get a Kawasaki 250 or a 500 because they have PLENTY of power for a beginner and you can grow I mean who really needs to (legally) go over the speed limit? Although your 6'1'' that doesn't really matter actually all too much when u ride streetbikes because basically ALL of the bikes have about a 30 inch seat height.... Thats just my 2¢big_guy_2006 wrote:hey guys im new here and im just getting my permit. im wondering on wut kind of bike i want to get. i dont want something expensive or big and fast, im looking at a street bike althought i really do love harley's. all i hear about kawasaki ninja's are is they are slow but i dont care i want something to ride and aint big. so im wondering would like a ninja be good or maybe even a honda cbr600. i dont want anything bigger than a 600, but i want something that is gonna last and does have some speed so when im more experienced ill have some fun. im 6'1" 200lbs and am fairly strong i dont really lift anymore tho. so guys any help on a bike would be great, i dont want an older bike tho i want something aggressive looking. thanks - andy

I've got a Honda 599, it's based off the 96 cbr engine. But it's been retuned and fitted smaller carbs to give it more low speed power. But it causes a decline in the top end power. It has an upright seating position, and keeps its weight lower then the cbr.huh wrote:Sevulturus wrote:You might want to consider a cruiser instead of a sportbike. Or a UJM for that matter. i guess you never ridden one???????? 600 can be as gently as a lamb
Having said that, I've almost gotten my "O Ring" kicked by it twice now. It's not something that I'm proud of, but yes, it's almost gotten away from me, both at low speeds, and both because of me partially panicing at how fast I was going around a corner. It felt like I was going to tip. And I almost did twice. Looking through the turn and modulating the power saved me. It kept me upright. I learned to do that on my LS650 savage. A single cylinder cruiser.
By comparrison to my bike: a cbr has more top end power, but less low end. It carries its weight higher, making it easier to tip, and it corners better. It has substantially more powerful brakes. It also has a seating position that is not confidence inspiring, with your feet behind you, and arms stretched out in front.
It might be gentle below 5000 rpms, or even 8000 rpms. But a NEW or FIRST TIME biker has not yet developed the skills to handle one of these bikes. It's not a guarantee that they will wreck, but it is more likely on a bike this powerful. Sorry, if I think that just because it's "gently" at low speeds doesn't make it a good learning bike. But I think you'll find that generally speaking you will find that the opinion I have offered is that of most of the members of this forum.

yourself. A bike like that is something that should be worked up to. Not something that anyone should just hop on because it's "gently as a lamb."
my point is with any bike you can crash. and since i have ridden the new crop of 600ss's i know that i takes some skill to make them fast. they just dont make enough low end power to make them hard to ride. once you get past 9k they start to move. but its not instant like say a zx-10r. yeah if you just pin the throttle and go head strong into a corner with out the skills you will crash. but thats true with even a savage 650.
most people have the smarts to know their limits. just because your scared dosent mean everyone should avoid anybike. just the person needs to be educated on what they just bought.
yes there are the idiots out there that feel the need to prove their man hood by their bike. but not every1. and the fact that some1 is asking for advice on a bike shows they are smart enough.
this is america and i for one dont need any1 telling me what i can buy or whats best for me.
yes a cbr 600 is as gentle as a lamb compared to a cbr1000rr

the 599 is a good bike but the price is to high.

Hey, you're right a 600 supersport is the perfect starter bike. I'm an idiot. Sorry, didn't mean to doubt you. Bye.
