hand signal at the intersection

Here is one I had awhile ago - not riding now as it is -6 out in WI - anyway - right before I winterized and out my bike away I had a short in the turn signals - both bulbs out - no problem I think I will just use hand signals today - that works till I come to a four way stop - I am in line about three cars from the sign and want to turn left but realize as I think thisout that this may be difficult to signal with my hands on the clutch - and it was - at the stop sign I had the car looking at me to see what I was going to do - he was going to go straight and I had the right of way or was first to the sign so he was waiting for me - trying to signal left and looking stupid so eventually he just went and I made my turn - anyway how do any of you used to this do hand signals at a stop sign - blinkers are fixed fyi - thanks -
