Emergency Stopping practice
I've been wanting to practice emergency stopping at high speeds for a couple weeks now, but I'm stumped as to where. The only "safe" spot I can think is one of the larger malls parking lots in the early morning when there are no cars. However, the security guys are still there circling in their truck and I'm sure would kick me out.
I've started doing a lot more long distance riding at highway speeds so swerving/braking at 60/70mph seems like a pretty smart thing to practice before I actually have to do it! Where do you guys do this stuff?

It may be worth going up to the security office, to ask if 1) they mind you trying emergency stops outside and 2) when would be the best time for you to be doing it.
Maybe they'll say no! but you might be surprised
Personally, I learnt on a weekend in an industrial estate where people only work on weekdays. Find a nice dead end, and go to the far end of it, and turn around. This ensures you won't have anything behind you when you brake, and you only have to worry about what's in front

We use a soccer complex parking lot. During the day, there's nothing going on there, except on weekends. The parking area is huge. I agree with niblett, ask. They might like to watch you, and you have a helper if you drop the bike (it can happen). Good luck.
Ride safe...God bless!
