Changing the local "threads" to forums
How about changing the more popular local area "threads" into their own forums? The continueing Alberta thread is becoming pretty scattered...

Re: Changing the local "threads" to forums
Humm, that is an interesting suggestion! But then the forum list could get quite long as there are many topics that could warrent that status...High_Side wrote:How about changing the more popular local area "threads" into their own forums? Re: Changing the local "threads" to forums
There's a phpBB mod out there that lets you have "folders and subfolders" in the forum lists, so you have the "Canada" folder that contains the "Ontario" subfolder that contains the "Ottawa" forum. I looked at it when my forum was trying to do regional stuff, but for us the volume wasn't worth the hassle. It's busier here, though.totalmotorcycle wrote:But then the forum list could get quite long as there are many topics that could warrent that status...

Re: Changing the local "threads" to forums
Thanks Mendel for the advise. I would like to add that, but with the constant phpBB security updates I feel that it is better to keep the forum as unmodded as possible. Would be nice to have though one day.mendel wrote:There's a phpBB mod out there that lets you have "folders and subfolders" in the forum lists, so you have the "Canada" folder that contains the "Ontario" subfolder that contains the "Ottawa" forum. LOL, this is such a simple question but it is taking me way too long to come up with some really great PC answer which I've typed, deleted, retyped in a different way, deleted, sat and thought about it again... haha.blues2cruise wrote:I'm curious as to why if this is a Canadian owned and operated forum, why is the USA listed ahead of Canada in the Local Forums?
The truth is they are just in order of the number of visitors per country the forums gets, USA, Canada, UK, Australia and then the rest of the 185 countries. So I thought I'd make it easier for the America's and the Canadians as good natured as we are wouldn't mind them going first.

For those that are unaware, Total Motorcycle is visited by motorcyclists in almost 190 countries around the world:

I think though it might make sense for any of the growing areas of traffic. There are only 3 or 4 areas where we have that many users who use those forums. So Calgary should have a sub-sections. I guess Ohio should too since we have a few regurlar meetings. But it doesn't make sense for Alaska to have its own sub-forum. Maybe you could just base it on a request per area - and even list that in the forum heading. If someone feels they carry the traffic to have a sub, they can request it from you. What do you think. And I'll be the first to ask for Ohio.

I can't make true "sub-forums" but I can make a Topic called "Ohio Local Sub-Forum" and make it a sticky so it's at the top.scanevalexec wrote:....So Calgary should have a sub-sections. I don't want to be weird about that idea. If we have a few areas that have more specific traffic, it might makes sense. I think you guys have more traffic regarding local plans, but I know our Ohio thread has become quite long. Don't change anything yet, I would like to hear other opinions.
