Honestly any kind of a windscreen will help you quite a bit, especially on your long planned ride.

I would certainly add a windscreen for a trip that long. If you don't like the look, when you are finished the ride , remove it.

He's gotta go from Chesterfield to Portugal (1700 miles) on his Suzuki GSF600 Bandit and is wondering if he should put on a windscreen.

Id put a small windscreen on it, especially in europe where its generally cooler and wetter than much of the US.
The bike will certainly do it no sweat. I had a 600 bandit and it was great for long distance rides.

A windscreen can help but it also can hurt . If it is not the right size for you, you head will be play ping pong with the wind...
