Smiling nicely and shaking the hand of a vandal/thief

#1 Unread post by The549 »

Hey all you momo nuts....so I registered here a few years ago when I got my first motorcycle, a Kaw 550 Zephyr, fast fun....what an adventure. Since then funds for it have dried up, so I haven't ridden in a year. It's been in my apartment lot, sitting. I left it in the back irresponsibly. It is worth next to nothing monetarily, and I couldn't sell it for much. This past year I've been to Ireland as an audio engineer, Thailand for family, England for a chance encounter with a beautiful woman whose desire to romp around with me I didn't understand, through weird and terrible relationships, and come back....more experienced if nothing else, with the urge to ride big as ever. Summer warmths hint at midday lately...

Last week:

On a busy night I receive an anonymous facebook message from a woman who says that she knows someone that wants to talk to me. I freak out thinking it was my really screwed up ex (forced laugh from me  :? ). But today I receive this: "The reason that I searched for you is because you left your motorcycle at that Apt Plaza and I know someone who wants it. Is there anything wrong with it?"
...I read, with a screwdriver in one hand and a lighter in the other (fixing an old drumset).
I should have replied:
"Oh no lady, just take it!!!"

See, I moved from one apt to another in the same complex, so I naturally thought it was the person in my old apt. I run over to my bike...it's THERE, first of all, but as I get closer I notice the seat is askew. And there are no papers in it. And now I forget if I left the title in there....only other thing amiss is the plastic triangle (you know...the one next to the battery on the side).

To make the story short, the lady in question comes out with her kids, 37 years old. I somewhat happily and excitedly say
"Oh hi! Are you the woman who messaged me about my bike? Yeah, it's mine, I'm glad you reminded me of it!"
...as I puke a little in my mouth...
"so...I was wondering if you had those papers from under the seat"
she starts to look nervous so I smile more and quickly add:
"...just because I'm gonna need to register it again soon, you know, and to have the insurance paper."

"Sure", she says, and disappears for 5 minutes while I watch her kids ride their bicycles in the parking lot.
...
anyways, I acted as happy as I could that she contacted me, and let her know that if she sees "that plastic piece around anywhere, let me know. They're cheap but hard to find. I've never tried to open a seat without a key but it looks pretty easy."
========

Ugh.

I worked for a company that got govt contracts...if I can get that job back due to the Obamulus plan (or any full time early enough), I'm gonna ride this summer.

Also, if a trip to the DMV shows any funny business, I'll once again be glad to have a lawyer in the family. Hate them till you need them.

I'm glad I still have a bike, even if it needs valves, redo the suspension properly, tires, and....4 gallons of gas plus rider.

HAVE A GOOD RIDE!

It does not matter how slick and shiny, how sleek and fast or how run down and pathetic she is, she's your bike!.

I have only had my ride for 3 months (of riding time) and I would "kill" anyone who dare desecrate her scratched and dented frame.

Here's hoping that all works out well for you and that you are out on the open road long before you forget about everything that just happened.
