exercises or things I should watch for

#1 Unread post by bbqbrisket »

I am about to move up in weight from a Shadow vlx600 to a Harley FXR Dyna.
It's about 200 pounds difference in weight and I am a little tentative about how this increase in weight is going to impact on me.

Any thoughts on what I should be aware of or some additional strength execices to counter act this additonal weight??
thanks

holy cow!!! That's a huge jump in weight. What, 50% more than the Shadow?

I had a BUNCH of "uh-oh" moments when I moved up by only 100 pounds. It was NOT pretty. I dropped my new baby more than a few times.

The biggest thing is relearning that muscle memory: How much effort it takes to hold the bike up at a stop, how much effort to turn the bars at very slow speeds... all the "unconscious" stuff you've done on your old bike.

I strongly suggest you spend some time working those legs. Good luck!

The easiest is getting that extra weight off the side stand. A lot of people rely completely on muscle to do that job, try this trick if you don't already...

Turn you handle bars completely to the right, put the hand brake on, then try lifting it... Physics is almost as much your friend as Google... lol.

Some people seem to have never been taught this little trick even at the basic MSF level, and it's such an easy thing to do.

It doesn't come with the bike but I'm thinking about getting those (not sure what they're called) skid bars so that the bike doesn't fall on me.
