BRC Required?

#1 Unread post by PacificShot327 »

I'm pretty sure I'm reading this correctly... Texas law is, as of 1 September 2009, mandating that all applicants for the M endorsement are REQUIRED to present proof of BRC completion?

Previously, you could just go take the road and written test, but if you took the BRC, the road test was waived.

Is it already required in other states?

not required in AZ, but if you took it in AZ it waived the written and road tests.

Down side: Government is sticking its nose into your private life
Up side: at least now all the newbies will have some training and basic skills before being let loose on the roads.

I'd call it a toss up, and in fact advocate mandatory training and graduated licensing for all newbie, no matter what their age is.
Always ask why.

I'm actually all for it.

Hubby rode many many years ago but forgot to pay the fee for the M endorsement when he last renewed his license, so lost it, and will have to go through the whole process again to have it put back on (ugh).

I asked him once to take the BRC just as a refresher, since it's been God-only-knows how many years it's been since he was last on a bike, and he didn't seem too inclined.

Now that it's required, I am a much mo' happy camper.

The course is optional. On satisfactory completion written test and driving test are waived.

It's not required in NC, but if you take it in NC, it waives the DMV road test.
