You know that's an interesting question and I don't have a clue.

:D

On racetracks bikers seem to come off at high speeds, slide along the ground for what seems like ages, then get up and walk away!

I can't imagine the same would apply on road.

You shouldn't try to lay the bike down. try to control it and brake to slow the whole thing down. Reduce the impact.

If you do come off, you probably won't have a choice. It'll just happend quicker than lightning. At least that is how it was with my and my 5mph crash.

Depends where you are in relation to the bike. If the bike is in front of you (ie accelerating away) and you're following it, which is typical of a lowside, then try to slow down as much as possible. Get your back or chest into contact with the ground as this provides the most surface braking area. You are wearing your leathers RIGHT?

If the bike is chasing you, typical of a highside, then you want to go faster then it. Try to get up on your helmet, boots, hands or shoulders. You should still be wearing full leathers. This will minimize your contact and hopefully keep you ahead of that 400lbs of steel that's chasing your "O Ring" down.

If you aren't wearing full gear... don't crash!
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I wouldn't bother worrying about what to do. When it happens, it's gonna happen so fast that you won't get a chance to do anything but hit the pavement or dirt or whatever. Trust me.........

It is called a highside.
It can happen different ways, but the easiest is to lock up the rear wheel and have it start sliding out, then release the brake and have the rear regain traction. The movement to right itself gives a strong "shake" and flips you off the bike which then crashes down on top of you. If you can keep your mind together, rolling away from the bike is good.

See the video with the guy pealing out from the dealership on a new bike and the rear end breaks away due to excessive acceleration, the when he chops the throttle, the rear regains traction and highsides.

the link to that video is somewhere on this board. I think the thread is called "Throttle Control".
