5-Cent Washington DC Bag Tax!
5-Cent Washington DC Bag Tax!
Just so people know there is a 5-Cent Bag Tax on all Paper and Plastic Bags in Washington DC now. It's good to know about if you plan on visiting anytime soon. You need to bring your own Reusable Bags to avoid the Tax.
However.... currently Maryland and Virginia have no Bag Tax. So you could do shopping out of Washington.

Re: 5-Cent Washington DC Bag Tax!
As much as I hate paying taxes of any sort, I sort of have to agree with this one. Ever since my local Super Markets started selling reusable clothe bags, I have drastically cut down on the amount of wasted plastic and paper bags I use. I even have a couple sitting in Connie's hard cases just in case I decided to stop off and do a little shopping on the way home.mgold wrote:Just so people know there is a 5-Cent Bag Tax on all Paper and Plastic Bags in Washington DC now. Way I see it, if such a tax even help cut even 5% of peoples use of plastic and paper bags, then its a good thing. Wouldn't mind seeing such a tax up here.
Also, since plastic bags are oil based, every plastic bag not produced is just much more fuel available for Connie. And that's a good thing.
Always ask why.

I'm with you Ceemes. I don't know if it will reduce bag usage but I think it's a great idea. I could see some old misers balking at the idea and carrying several armloads of groceries to the car. Works for me. Recycling those bags isn't free either. This would be a great way for grocery stores to recoup some of those costs. Sometimes you have to force people to do the right thing.

When I bought my books for school, they came in a plastic bag with a big Compostable logo on it. Plastic bags can be recycled and if you look at some of those resuable bags that the grocery stores sell you now they are not recyclable.
Stores want you to use resuable bags not for the enviorment but to make you a walking billboard when you go about your shopping at other stores. Free advertising is all it is.

There is no shame in the love of rodent hunting.
There is Honor in the pursuit of wasting that little prick, Willy, in particular.
I'm locked and loaded and ready to paint the snow red the second he or any of his kin show their head above ground.....
.... and I'll do it for free.....
