2004 suzuki volusia?

#1 Unread post by kuz »

Anyone have any experience with an 04 suzuki volusia? Found one for a good price and will probably be picking it up. My blast is a bit small for me and the GF. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

01-04 the only differences were badging and paint schemes.
I had an 01, what questions do you have on it?

How does it ride? Any maintenance issues or quirks I should be aware of in advance? From what Ive found online, its a very solid bike, just looking for first hand experienced opinions. Thanks.

Well I owned one as my first bike, and from riding other cruisers in it's class I'd say it rides really well. Very stable and good in the corners, with good usable power but not too much. It'll do just fine in town as well as on the Interstate. Only weak point on it I'd say would be the seat. The stock seat has a decently large bump in the back of it that tends to dig into your tailbone. Other than that the thing is a wonderful bike IMHO. It also made my list to buy another one someday when I can have more than one sitting in the garage.

I own an 05 version of the same bike, rebadged a C50. Major difference being Fuel Injection opposed to Carbed.

Pros as I see em.
1. Looks pretty good
2. Runs Very well. Starts cold, wet, hot, or dry.
3. Pretty decent community support, www.volusiarider.com
4. Seems to handle pretty good for a cruiser to me. Easy to scrape the boards on, but what cruiser isn't?
5. I get about 50mpg out of mine pretty consistently. Fill up almost every time with 3.5 I have a tankbag so I can't see my fuel light. If i go around a curve to the left and the bike sputters, it's time to fill up.

Cons as I see em
1. That damn seat wrider mentioned. I could swear sometimes that my tailbone has actually punctured the skin and is hanging out in the air.
2. Will do interstate speeds, but at least my experience with it, it much prefers 55. That's my bike though. It's big and fat and slow like me. Probably helped a lot by the 1400 rear end you can read about on the volusiariders site. DJdrive or Hamlings should put you in the area.
3. Tank. It's wide at the back. If you have thighs, you're gonna have em pushed out into a pretty good sprawl. And for me this means a whole LOT of air hitting the inside of my knee. And no good way to get away from it without stopping. After a couple-3-10 hours You'll really.... REALLY be wanting to sit with your knees behind some protection.
4. Pretty heavy bike.
5. Kinda low on go juice compared to others... helped by stuff like power commanders, exhausts, etc etc.... That said, it hauls my big "O Ring" around without any real complaint. It aint a sportbike by any means. Or meant to be.

I have/had an 02 - it was my first bike and i LOVE/Loved it!

low to the ground, forgiving for my noobiness (not temperamental nor twitchy), easy to maneuver, dependable, stable, PREDICTABLE, easy with maintenance, and had plenty of go - even on the highway (and I'm a BIG guy).

potential downsides: It's not particularly quick on the twist, mine always needed a touch of choke, and ran better in the fall cool weather than the summer, but I crashed on it in july and haven't yet decided it's ultimate fate. Note - it stayed up after me - and was not the cause of the crash. One other downside - stock seat. i upgraded to a mustang seat, and it was the smartest thing i ever did!
still recovering - back to crutches, then walking with a stick, then running - then hopefully riding again!
