Tailgaiting
I am really getting sick of people tailgaiting me while I am on the bike. On my way to and from work there is a two lane road through the prairie that is 35MPH due to construction. Double fines make it almost $30 per MPH over so I tend to keep it just about 35. The cagers think it is their right and responsibility to 'push' me to a speed more desirable to them.
If I were in my truck there would be no discussion. Slow down and let them get a good look at the big chrome trailer ball. On the bike I am afraid for my life. It is not like I can pull over anywhere and let these people by.
ARRGH. Sorry I had to vent.

Re: Tailgaiting
completely agree, I hate being on my bike instead of in my truck when some jackhole decides to see how close he can get without actually hitting me.

Been there. Don't know how to resolve this issue in a safe manner. Yet. Have thought about a 2 million candlepower Black Max light that I use when I am fishing at night. It will blind you for a few seconds.

Ball bearings, used spark plugs, marbles... All will at a minimum put a decent sized dent into a windshield... Or so I've heard...

Re: Tailgaiting
Use what you can: when safe, pull to the right side of the lane and motion the offender to pass. Or when safe, use your left hand to gesture to them to back off--most drivers will, simply because they weren't thinking and the gesture wakes them up a little. If that doesn't work, move in your lane a lot. If they think you're drunk and/or crazy, they might back off. Some people are just jerks, though, and probably think it's funny.
I know everyone jokes about tossing things over their shoulders (my ideal is jujy fruit candy...it would probably scare and stick but not do damage) but really...not worth the risk. Toss a battery - break a windshield - scare the driver - they wreck = you're in big trouble. Not worth it.

What she said. Considering that the majority of tailgaters simply have no clue about the stupidity of their actions, tossing something at them just will not end well for either of you.Thumper wrote:Toss a battery - break a windshield - scare the driver - they wreck = you're in big trouble. Weaving in your lane, making a "back off" motion with your left hand, rapidly looking back and forth into both mirrors... anything to show that you are in an agitated state is USUALLY enough to penetrate the thickest of bozone layers surrounding a cager's head. But if none of those work, just pull the hell over and let them rocket off into the distance. You just don't have a chance if it escalates any further.

Just need to Accessorize properly.
I bet this bike doesn't get many tailgaiters.
