Hello all. I have a '99 Suzuki Intruder 1400 and it just recently started to get really hot...almost to the point where it is burning my legs. are there any ideas as to why this jsut started happening? i have had the bike for a couple years. I've taken it to shops and had them dyno it. the oil is fine and i just cleaned out the carb and adjusted it. but still no luck. and it happens all the time...does not matter if i am pulling a grade or flying off a cliff. thanks for the help.

Shooting in the dark.......
Have you added any airflow changeing/blocking accessories to the bike lately? Windshields, chrome headlight or fork shrouds, front fender, ect?

How's your coolant level? If you are getting low on coolant, then engine temp is going to increase.

thanks for the replies. it happened without any mods. added to the bike and as far as i know it is air/oil cooled. does not have coolant. if anyone has a heat gun can you give me the avg. running temp on your bikes? thanks again.

you're right, it is air/oil cooled. I thought it might be liquid cooled, as the '97 model is liquid cooled. My mistake.

Ugh. blocked oil passages maybe?
Or, your bike might be running really lean. A really lean bike will run like snot, until the pistons gall and sieze. You may need to recheck your carbies and se tthem to the stock settings. The bike doesn't ahve any Intake/exhaust mods?

On a related note. What is too hot for an air-cooled engine? Is it normally specified in the shop manuals?? Or is there a more indirect way of telling if a bike is running too lean/rich like maybe dyno or EGA...
