Is there a brand name on the bike? Maybe a catchy set of letters stenciled on the seat or fender? What color is it? Throw a guy a bone.......
Anyway, sounds like maybe a high-speed ignition fault or a rich main jet and/or needle combo. It's not bouncing off the rev limiter is it?

hey thanks for the replys. Its red and black. some japanese brand, pretty close to a honda 100cc ive been told. When i get to a certain speed, and its around about the same speed each time, the reves jump and it gives off little backfires. at first i just thought the bike was cold so walmed it up a bit more, changed the oil...etc. hasnt helped.

from what little we know about this mystery bike it sounds like maybe the main jet in the carburetor is clogged up--take the air cleaner off and close up half of the carburetor intake throat with duct tape and run it if it gets better you aint getting enough fuel through the main jet--if it runs worse you are getting too much fuel through the main jet.i am assuming that it is running bad in the mid or wide open throttle position.

Sounds as close as anything at this piont. Could have caught a chunk of crud let over from manufacture in a jet or something.
