new bike suggestions

rode from age 15-30
had kawasaki 100 trail boss, then gs 250 suzuki then cb900f super sport honda
sold 900 raised family and now want to get back into it
apparently insurance could be an issue as I HAVE BEEN out for a long time and I have been told i am like a new rider now at age 50
have quad but because of legislation changes am looking to switch back to street riding
like the sport bike style
gsx's, hayabusa .rr1000,etc
taler body at 6'7 so need some leg room
thought maybe of the vstrom 1000 or possibly a sport touring
st1300 fjr 1300
any help appreciated
trying to sort this all out before buying something i can't handle

Vstrom is good. Also if you are looking for a good bike for a tall dude and cheap to insure, the BMW R-GS series is a good bike.

Yup, I'll back up the V-Strom suggestion. The 650 or the 1000 is the same bike and the same height, I went for the 650 because it was much better on gas, cheaper to buy and less to insure. The hp different between the two wasn't enough to go for the 1000.

At 6'7" you'll be too big for many bikes, like me. There are some out there for us, but they are few. Some cruisers will work, almost all dual sports, some bench seat type bikes (ie 80's and bonneville T100 type), but forget about supersport bikes in general.

Hmmm, Bandit 1200/1250 or Ninja 1000? More comfortable than out and out sportbikes, cheaper, lighter and more sporty than the ST or FJR.
