Hello,
I'm a beginner biker (passed the MSF last week, today was my first day of riding on my own). My question is, do most of you take extra security precautions when parking your bike? Chains? Steering-locking mechanisms? Lojack? I haven't purchased any extra security systems, and was curious if this is risky.
BTW, I'm riding a Kymco Venox 250... small, I know, but I wanted a safe start... not like I really get to open it up anyway, considering that I use it to commute near Boston.
Bike Security
get a disk lock, or a heavy duty bike chain lock and wrap it around one of the tires. just make sure to get a lock that has the new double sided 'pick' style key not the tubular round keys.

Yes, Yes, Yes!
I nearly lost my bike on a busy residential street t 4 in the afternoon last summer, it took me (and some good friends) most of the winter to fix all the damage.
I use a very large cable lock as I have drum brakes on the front. The lock is one recognised by UK insurers. If I can I lock her to a piece of street furniture like a streetlight as some scumbags cruise around in van's and pick up bikes removing the locks when it is convieniant for them.
Locking it to streetfurniture also limits people 'accidently' knocking your ride over.
