motorcycle fitting

#1 Unread post by VermilionX »

i was wondering about moto fitting.

in bicycles, there's different sizes of bikes and you can still adjust or switch parts easily to achieve a good fit, as long the frame size you got is within ballpark.

on moto, there's no different sizes. can you even have mods to adjust reach? i remember a while back and i saw a pic of michael jordan on a sportbike and he was still sitting very upright on it bec of his height.

im glad im within range of most sportbikes.

but yeah, got me wondering.

Risers, different seats, highway pegs, but I think bicycles are a lot easier to adjust then motorcycles.

2009-2012 BMW F650GS had both a lowered seat option and a lowered suspension option which could be ordered independently or together. I think this carries over to the 2013 F700GS.

Lots of aftermarket stuff available. Just one example at random, Gen-Mar risers for bikes with clip-ons - can reduce the reach to the bars, change the whole riding position.

i see. mostly aftermarket for moto. very limited adjustments w/o changing parts.

interesting though that there's actually a moto that had different options to accommodate diff body types.

No not really. Like they said you can get different bars, bar risers, adjustable pegs, etc, but that's about it. That said there is a lot of adjustability if you use those parts.

Good point though. It's nice to have aftermarket solutions, but I do wonder why don't manufacturers design more bikes with adjustable bars, seats, and pegs. It'd save riders a few bucks, after all.

One of the reasons you adjust on the bicycle is to allow smooth and continuous power. On a motorcycle it isn't nearly as big an issue, hence why it gets less focus.
