Just trying to get my feet wet. I don't have a bike -- yet.


I picked up a Cycle Trader for the hell of it to get a feel for what kind of used stuff is out there. I've got very little knowledge about motorcycles as it stands now, but I'm working on it.

Anyone mind pointing me in a few different directions?

check out the 80s japanese bikes...reliable, cheap, and realativly easy to maintain...and enough variances to find the size you want.

Definitely take the msf. And browse the old threads on here and read the beginning biker and shopping links on the home page of this site. Lots of good info here. After you've sucked up a little info/and/or taken the msf you'll have your choices narrowed down from hundreds to 3 or four. Hopefully we'll be able to help you come to a decision.

I was wondering about that. Apparently, it's not required where I live. I was surprised.

I'll probably wind up taking it anyway, just to be on the safe side. Do those links list sites to take the class? Also, do I need my own bike?

The links in my signature take you to the sites described. The national site will link you to your state and so forth to find a class. Also, ask around and see if any of the riders you see can give you more info on classes. The MSF link to Pennsylvania is different than the PAMSP site.

The MSF basic rider course provides a motorcycle and, even a helmet if you don't have one. You'll have to wear a helmet, eye protection, full fingered gloves, long sleeves, long pants and shoes or boots over the ankle for the riding portions. At the end of the Pennsylvania class, if you pass, you also get your license endorsement.

So, even though I don't have a motorcycle yet, I have my license.

Don't worry about the heat , they won't let ya pass out . Took mine in August and it is always hot during that month in Sunny Cali......
