DUNGEY AND #MUSQUIN BOTH SECOND AT HANGTOWN MX
@RedBull @KTM Factory Racing duo Ryan Dungey and Marvin Musquin launched their bids for the title in the 2015 AMA Motocross Championship on Saturday at Rancho Cordova, California picking up a pair of second place overall finishes in the 450 and 250-classes respectively in the Hangtown Motocross. Both riders are coming off championship victories in the 2015 Supercross Championships.
Dungey nearly pulled the holeshot in his first moto and came around the second corner in the runner-up position. He remained close to the led ride of Eli Tomac for the next few laps before he settled into the position and held onto second position all the way to the flag.
In the second moto, Dungey earned another decent start and rounded the first corner in fourth place. He had moved up to second by the top of the first hill and put in another consistent moto to round off his day out with a 2-2 moto score and second overall.
“I’m really happy to earn a podium at the opening round,” stated Dungey. “It’s a great way to start the season.”

Musquin finishes 1-2 in 250-class for his second placed podium
Red Bull KTM Factory rider Marvin Musquin wrapped up his day second overall when he won the opening moto and finishes second in the second race in the opening round of the Pro 250 Motocross Championship held at Prairie City OHV Park. His teammate, Justin Hill, rebounded from a poor first moto result to finish seventh in moto two.
Musquin had a top three start at the gate drop of moto one and was second after the first lap. He made a couple mistakes and dropped back to fourth place for the next three laps before he made a great pass to move back into podium position. He made his moves on the two lead riders in the seventh lap of the race and once out front, he checked out and went on to win the moto by four seconds.
“I am excited to get the opening moto win,” stated Musquin. “I really like this track and am happy to be on the top of the podium and excited for the second race.”
Musquin’s Red Bull KTM Factory teammate Justin Hill was not so lucky. He crashed on the opening lap and had to return to the mechanics area for assistance. He started nearly a lap down when the problem was fixed but went out and turned fast times to climb from fortieth to twenty fifth in the 30 minute plus two lap moto.
“I’m bummed about the crash first moto,” stated Hill. “But I’m happy I’m okay and can come back and charge hard for moto two.”
Musquin was among the top ten when the gate dropped for his second race. He moved up to seventh by lap two and gained two more positions in the following lap. On the fourth lap he was able to move into fourth place and two laps later he catapulted his KTM two more positions into second and once there settled in to finish the moto in that position. His 1-2 moto scores earned him second overall for the day.
“Overall, I am happy with my performance,’ stated Musquin. “I would have definitely liked the overall win, but I am happy with a 2nd place result at the opening round. It puts me in a great spot heading into next week.”
Meanwhile, Hill had a much better start in moto two and was just outside the top ten. He spent the moto moving up through the pack and was able to climb as high as seventh place by the end of the moto. His 25-7 scores earned him 13th overall for the day.
