VINALES AND HERRERA DELIVER STRONG RIDES AT @CATALUNYA

Husqvarna Factory Laglisse riders Isaac Vinales and Maria Herrera were both impressive on the Barcelona Circuit de Catalunya for Round Seven of the Moto3 World Championship on Sunday. Vinales fought hard to finish seventh at the front of the second group of riders in a race where the top six all finished within one second of each other.

Vinales started back at twentieth position but came back strong to come off best in a tough battle in the closing stages of the race. He finished ahead of Romano Fenati, Brad Binder and Philipp Oettl who, with Vinales, rounded off the top 10 after the race went to Britain’s Danny Kent. Vinales is sixth in the championship points.

Maria Herrera, in her rookie season with the team finished fifteenth to be in the World Championship points, a definite confidence booster for this talented rider.

Vinales said while he didn’t manage to latch onto the front group he was satisfied to be running lap times that were equal to the top riders. “The positive thing is that I finished in front of my group. Now we have to focus on the next race at Assen, a circuit that I like. We saw here how important qualifying is, and for Assen I will try to be on the first or second row.”

Maria Herrera: “I knew we had the pace but the front group got away. I was in the second group and tried to fight as much as possible. But Guevara went down in front and broke up the group and I had to fight for thirteenth place. It was fun and I fought until the end with Quartararo. The team worked very well this weekend and this result is an extra motivation.”
