Double Podium for @HRC #Riders in Drama-Filled #MXGP of #Germany
Team HRC’s Evgeny Bobryshev took his second podium of the season in Germany today with a stunning performance to take third overall, and he stood alongside fellow HRC rider Tim Gajser of the Honda Gariboldi Racing squad for the second double-HRC podium of the season.
Bobby came home eighth in race one, still nursing a shoulder that’s less than 100 percent, but dug extraordinarily deep in race two. Starting well, he quickly found himself into second in moto two, and attacking Antonio Cairoli for the lead. Towards the end of the race a resurgent Romain Febvre was closing Bobby down, and the last four laps were intense – the duo split by less than one second.
Meanwhile, Max Nagl and Jeremy van Horebeek crashed out, and Gajser also saw himself demoted from third to ninth with a crash, meaning the overall order was changing minute-by-minute.
Coming under intense pressure, Bobby threw everything he had at maintaining second place in the closing stages, his best result of the season and his best moto finish since Mantova last year. Staying ahead of Febvre by 0.6seconds meant that he took the #777 CRF450RW to the third step of the podium, equalling the overall result from the season-opener in Qatar.
Gajser’s second place in moto one and his fight back to fourth in race two put him second on the podium, but crucially sees him retake the red plate as the leader of the World Championship after seven rounds.
The result also means that Honda lead the Manufacturers’ Championship.

Evgeny Bobryshev:
Race Result: 8th, 2nd 3rd overall“You know I was almost sick in the last few laps because I was pushing so hard and riding through so much pain. My shoulder was so tired I couldn’t hold the bike properly, but I thought ‘I just have to give this all’. At the end of the race I didn’t know I finished third overall. I’m really pumped to be on the podium. After the crash in Latvia I’ve had no time on the bike, and especially as the track here in Germany is so tough, it’s an amazing feeling to be on the podium again. I wouldn’t do this without the team and the medical centre because again they’ve done such a great job with my shoulder. And also I want to say such a big thanks to the team and I’m so pleased for this podium for them after all the work they put in. At the start of the second race I saw I was in second and I though ‘great, I’m behind Toni so I’ll see how much I can hold’, but then I could stay there. Febvre was pushing so hard behind at the end, so I’m so happy to take second in race two, and to give HRC a double podium with Tim.”Roger Harvey
HRC General Manager - MXGP“It’s fantastic to see Bobby on the podium again, but this weekend is even better as we didn’t expect this result after his injury in Latvia, and we have the bonuses of leading the Manufacturers’ title, leading the World Championship standings with Tim, and our second double-podium of the season. Both teams, Team HRC and Honda Gariboldi, are working so hard and it shows because we can see that Honda is firmly at the front of MXGP this season.”

Gajser Retakes World Championship Lead with Seventh Podium in Germany
Tim Gajser continued his remarkable season today by stepping onto the podium again with second overall, maintaining his 100 percent podium record from 2016, and in doing so returning the championship leader’s red plate to the #243 Honda CRF450RW.
The MXGP of Germany was a frantic and dramatic affair, but Gajser still made the best of the challenges that were thrown his way. In race one he was again in a tooth-and-nail battle with Antonio Cairoli, the duo taking turns at leading and trading fastest laps. At Cairoli’s final push, Gajser wisely rolled off the throttle a little to settle for second, deciding that when the track was as deeply rutted as it was today, discretion was the better part of valor.
Coming back strongly in race two, it was the Slovenian chasing his Team HRC teammate Evgeny Bobryshev as the pair slotted into second and third on their CRF450RWs.
As Gajser trailed Bobby, a small but unfortunate crash in the first third of the race meant that he slipped to ninth, and a Latvia-style recovery ride was again the order of the day. Amid a multitude of crashes as others were caught out by the gusting winds and deeply-rutted track, GT243 fought back to fourth overall, setting up a Honda double-podium as he took second overall ahead of Bobryshev in third.
As well as leading the World Championship by eight points, Honda also now lead the Manufacturers’ standings.
In MX2, Jorge Zaragoza was left ruing the first-corner crash he was caught up in yesterday as he tried to fight through the pack, ultimately finishing 17th overall, and David Herbreteau made the best of the difficult conditions to finish 13th on the CRF250R.
Next up is the team’s home round, as MXGP travels to the Grand Prix of Trentino in Italy next weekend..

Tim Gajser:
Race Result: 2th, 4th 2th Overall“It’s amazing to have the red plate back on the red bike! Seven GPs into the season we’re feeling great. The last two GPs I made some stupid mistakes I would say, but anyway we’re really happy with the weekend. We’re again on the podium, which means from all the races so far this season which is pretty good! To have the red plate is a great feeling, and I want to say a huge thanks to Honda and HRC as the bike is incredible. I also want to say thanks to my Dad because we’ve been working a lot between races and during the weekends too and I’m really thankful for that because it makes us together so strong. It’s been a fantastic weekend, and it was great to see Bobby on the podium too on another Honda!”David Herbreteau:
Race Result: 15th, 14th 13th Overall“The weekend wasn’t that bad because we made some improvement with the bike and my feeling on it again which is important. I know I can be faster and better in races, so we’re now working hard on finding out how to be more sure of me and how to unlock this. We’re working in a good way, and to be in the top 15 is ok, but my goal is for the top ten in France so we need to work step-by-step to achieve this.” Jorge Zaragoza:
Race Result: 18th, 15th 17th Overall“The problem this weekend was Saturday and the crash at the start of the qualifying race. To start in 36th position was so difficult and I made two bad starts. This track is then difficult to pass riders because it was so difficult and rutted today, so now we need to focus on making a better Saturday in Italy and using that to make Sunday better.”Giacomo Gariboldi, Team Principal “The red plate is back where it belongs, back on the red bike! For Tim to have been on the podium at every round is incredible – with four wins and three top-three finishes. Now to have the red plate – we couldn’t ask for more. We knew today would be difficult because Cairoli was faster from the start, but Tim managed to be always there. He tried to pass a few times in race one, and in race two he was again there until a little mistake. But today is perfect for the championship and for the red plate. He’s had races where he’s led from the front and races where he’s really had to work, and to win a championship you need to be able to come out of many different situations well, and Tim’s showing he can do this. He’s adapting to all the situations very well, and I think that’s why he’s finished on the podium at every race so we’re very happy.”
