How long can petrol last in a jerry can?

#1 Unread post by ultimax »

Hi,

yeah how long can gas keep in jerry can that'll be stored in a cool, dark area (garage). I'm not planning on using fuel stabilisers. Also, do octane levels matter? Will higher octane petrol last longer?

thanks!

Why no stabilizer?

With Stabilizer, they say to use it in 6 months, I've gone longer.

Without stabilizer they say 30 days, but I've gone a little longer than that.

The problem is the gas, without stabilizer, loses the most volatile parts first, leaving behing a much lower quality product.

I wouldn't go more than 45 days on it. If you intend on using it in your lawn mower, you could go longer, but I wouldn't put old gas in my motorcycle. I like riding, not walking.
