Who's really the idiot? My issues with some bikers -

Coming from basically a "cager" perspective, I was wondering what aspects and who you guys actually support in terms of driving and riding. Ie:
I think it's a poor choice that stems from laziness and self-centeredness to not use turn signals in a car or bike. But for a biker to go down after trying to illegally pass a car that makes a sudden turn....who's the idiot? In my opinion, the biker is more of the idiot. Why? Because he or she knows that biking is much more dangerous, and even though the car was driving poorly, if the motorcyclist would have just slowed down like a normal car driver, he or she would have been fine.

I have the same issues with driving on the line in traffic. If someone tries to stop you, yes, they are an a-hole. But if a biker hits someone, who's the idiot? The biker is, in my opinion. Just because the car may have made a sudden idiotic turn has nothing to do with the fact that a biker put himself out there to be smashed.

I understand this is not how all bikers ride, and probably the large majority don't. But you know those for whom I'm typing.

Keep in mind I understand that the huge majority of car complaints you guys have are very much a one-way issue, but to me it seems like a lot of these type of accidents occur from bikers who are using the capabilities of their machines to do things that may ultimately put them at a huge risk - which they shouldn't complain about.

Lastly, and a bit off topic, I actually like the loud motorcycle sounds when I'm driving my car. For me, it's much easier to become aware of the bikes and to give em distance. Wish I could give the same appreciation to the noise when I'm trying to sleep or eat at a restaurant. :?

I sincerely am curious, and I'm not trying to upset any of you...so just let me know what you think. Thanks!

I see both sides of the issue. I've definitely seen bikers driving like complete idiots and I just want to throttle them because they give us all a bad name. I also recognize that a lot of cagers are extremely inattentive drivers and they put everyone at risk. my number one driving tip to everyone, biker and cager alike... is don't follow so damn close.

Couple of thoughts here....

First, there are as many bad bikers as there are bad cagers, they're probably one and the same in most cases, but the difference (and most likely the passion) comes from the difference in both physical and mechanical damage done to each in an accident.

Also a bad biker tends to only hurt himself while a bad cager can take down a whole bunch of people with a stupid stunt. That right there should give more responsability to the cager but we all know it doesn't.

It seems cagers assume because the bike has two wheels the rider can manuever themselves out any situation when thats really not the case.

Having said that, I won't forget the time I was nearly taken out by another bike (sports actually) who didn't see me a few cars ahead of him when he was swerving through traffic at speeds far too fast.

Never waved or apologized.

No ones perfect, but the biker gets hurt the most.....

My mindset for self-preservation is that I am invisible, and if some cagers can actually see me, their mission is to kill me if they can. It may sound a little silly, but it has been working for a very long time. It worked today, too, had a lovely ride down Hiway 101 dodging motorhomes, Harleys, and fifth-wheelers. They couldn't touch me.

people need to mind their own business on the road. a biker cutting between cars rather than waiting in line doesnt effect me one bit so i dont care if someone does it. its not like the biker is taking my spot in line or whatever. same with bikes parking on sidewalks(in front of stores) people see the bike pulling right up next to the doors and get all mad the bike didnt go find a parking spot like every other car. but as long as the bike isnt blocking anything its noones problem where its parked.

people are just to into everyone elses bussines and are out to police everyone else.

Last time I saw a guy ride up and park on the sidewalk in front of a store instead of using the regular parking spaces, I saw a couple of senior citizens looking at his bike after he went in the store. Then one of them pushed it over and they both laughed! So did I. He would have had better luck parking in the handicapped space.

As for the other, I don't like when ANYONE tries to hurt/maim/kill me, whether it's a "cager" or a "biker".....

The bottomline is......

At the end of the ride, it is your responsibility get get your own butt home alive and unscathed. Keep that in mind when riding and do things that tend not to get you killed. You can't trust the other guy, you have to account for your own welfare.

You can still get blindsided by some fool or something, but your chances go up if you don't make any obviously dangerrs moves.

why would you laugh at his bike being pushed over? its not like he was taking a spot from a car or a handicap spot, his bike is on the sidewalk in noones way.

what next people pushing your bike over because its get better gas mileage than their cars? here stores encourage you to park on their walk way as long as you dont block anything. also most are putting motorcycle only parking spots up front closer than handicap spots.

Shocking, How can you laugh at someones bike being pushed over. Both you and those old farts need your Karma wheel to turn so you get some perspective. Reinforces the attitude of look after yourself because there is just too many crazies out there. Shocking.

O.K., before you guys get your panties in a bunch- It's not legal to park on the sidewalk in front of a "no parking" sign here.

No, he wasn't "taking a parking spot from a car or a handicap spot"- he parked right in front of the door where everyone has to push their cart around his bike to load their car/bike/whatever. He was being an arrogant ****head. Maybe one of them should have called the police and had it towed instead of pushing it over? Would that make you feel better? Why not just park out in the lot and walk a whole 100 feet to the door?

I laughed at the two "old farts" because the guy who parked the bike was an old fart too. Maybe you will get there someday if you're lucky.

Hey, doesn't wishing for the Karma wheel to turn my way make bad things come your way?
