Acceleration for only 1/4 turn of gas...

#1 Unread post by The549 »

I have my old '85 nighthawk 450 that I ran the other day, and noticed that for more than 1/4 or 1/3 of a turn of throttle (which is plently to get it to 50 or more if I had a road for it), the throttle dies off. The rpm is not peaking (I'm pretty positive....no tach), and it's very smooth till I try and max it out....I'm not sure where to start.

Also, how hard is it to install a tach with the cable present?
Thanks!

You could have bad fuel delivery, or weak spark. I think it is the fuel.

I think it's fuel as well. Either one of your jets (Like the main jet) came loose and fell out of its seating position, or the main jet is clogged. Take the carbs off and take a peek inside the floats !

So I'll be able to see pretty clearly if it's clogged (since I've never worked on carbs before)? Thanks.
