Say goodbye to Triumph's Thruxton...

#1 Unread post by totalmotorcycle »

A couple of weeks ago I attended the live Triumph last release of the last Thruxton, the Final Edition. All us in the press were pretty much shocked to see such an icon going away. I asked a few questions directly to Triumph (funny enough no other press asked), which were why it was going away and I got the reply that was a bit marketing but if you read between the lines, even though they sold 40,000 Thruxton's since launch and 20,000 where there new 1200cc engine, customers just stopped buying them and combine supply chain issues, well, that's that.

The other 2 questions I had that got answered was if the 1200 Thruxton was going away, what about a 400cc Thruxton with the new 400cc engine? Maybe in the future, you never know they said. Ok, that would be nice if it ever happened as we would see a sub-$5000 Thruxton!

The last question was if the 1200cc engine was going away as they use it in the Bonneville T120. No, no plans to do that. Ok, so the engine in safe...for now.

But I also wanted to share some insights with you about the market in general from a finance blog I follow:
“So what happens is, is that the credit card delinquencies are the first thing to show you the strain on the consumer. Now, if you watch my video, you’ll see one that I recorded at the cottage and I talked about discretionary purchases by consumers. Things like boats and motorcycles and Sea-Doos and sports cars and all that fun stuff that’s totally falling off a cliff. Well, why? Because the consumer is tapped and in fact, the lower income end of the consumer are starting to default on their credit cards to the highest level seen since about 2010.”
That right there says... SUPPORT TMW today please.

It's a shame that we won't see Thruxton's growth and market dominance. There is definitely a reason why the car company decided to stop producing this classy model.
