Best Bang - 4 - Buck?
Ok, guys I have a question. I have been reading a bunch o these motorcycle magazines (mostly in study hall, and math...) and they don't answer my question, wat is the best bang for buck motorcycle. now i know there is no ONE bike that's the best, but just examples. Ok, so here are my guidelines (not rying to sound bossy, but i thought this would help,
) I was thinkin that it should be a used one, much cheaper, and i don't mind if it isn't neck snapping fast to start, but if it isn't, i would hope it had a decent aftermarket followup, (is there much of an aftermarket followup for motocycles? i know theres alot 4 car, damn ricers) so i was hoping you guys could add some input u know, to help me out. I hope this doesn't turn into a flame war. that happens alot at car websites but i dunno, it seems like you guys are more civilized... methinks that u dudes know alot about these two wheeled thingies that go fast, so u guys must be able to contribute someting, i hope. thanx

So it seems to me that you are leaning more toward the sport side of motorcycling. Here's my suggestion then: Look for a Used Suzuki SV 650. It has won the best "bang for the buck" award from virtually every moto-rag for a few years running. The SV650 will embarass most sportscars at stoplights, yet sip, rather than guzzle gas.Shnailpower wrote:Ok, guys I have a question. Have you looked into the MSF course yet? If not, do yourself a favor and give it a shot. It will save you a lot of headache down the road.

Best bang for your buck is almost always going to be a UJM. Almost any 80s Japanese bike you can acquire for cheap, repair inexpensively (you can do a vast majority of the work yourself) and ride until the cows come home.

At your age, get a dirt bike. A 125 CC will probably fit you (being young). It's about the only option you've got until you're older. Might i suggest a TTR125? It only has 5 hp, but they're small and nimble. And hey, just cause it's 5 HP doesn't mean it can't move. It can move my 260 lb self along no problem.

For now definately a dirt bike. 125 should be about perfect. a 4 stroke will require less manintainance and use less gas, 2 stroke will have more power, though modern 4 stroke dirt bike engines are almost as powerful as a 2 stroke.
You can have a blast in the dirt now and have some experience when you get old enough to move onto the road.
