I searched and didn’t see a duplicate thread.

Of the bikes you have owned, which was your favorite also which was your least favorite and why?

My least favorite was a Honda CD 175, my second road bike. I called it the old cow as on hard acceleration :laughing: its exhaust gave out a strained “Moo” sound. It also had Continental tires with very hard rubber, it was like riding on a banana skin. Anyhow this was in the early 1970’s and riding like an aspiring boy racer that bike put me down on a number of occasions also ploughed into the back of a car, those tires just would not grip. I had to rebuild the engine twice in the short time I owned that bike as it had a tendency to snap timing chains. I’ve had a few Hondas since and got on OK with them, just not the old cow.

My favorite was a yellow 750 Norton Commando fastback. Considering what was around in 1974 that bike could really fly. It had the Combat motor (I had very little trouble with mine though some thought the Combat was a lemon). It also had the triple S high lift cams, crappy brakes and lots of noise. People knew you were in town. That bike oozed character, it could kick back on the kickstart very convincingly. On Dunlop TT100 tires handling was superb, I had that bike for 11 years and it never dumped me once. After a couple of years I put on some Dunstall goodies, 2-1-2 exhaust system, rear sets, clip-ons and a yellow fibreglass front mudguard. Also a Boyer/Bransden electronic ignition kit. Even in the mid ‘80s that bike was still very competitive. I sold it to a youngster who wrote it off within a month. At least he survived and only had minor cuts and bruises.

I honestly cannot say that I ever had a least favorite one . They all meant something to me at the time of ownership . I can say that my favorite one is the one I have now . Miz Thang is definitely all that and dim sum........ :laughing:

my 2 favorite ones were a 1978 gs550 suzuki.completely trouble free for 40000 miles.the next is a 1982 v45 honda sabre with 48000 miles.i still have it.tires and oil are all i have spent on it.plus 2 back operations because of the rock hard suspension.the absolute worst one i ever owned was a cb450 honda.nothing about it fit me.i could not ride it.

I have to agree with Wizzard on this one.
As long as I'm In The Wind I'm good to go.
But....I had a Gold Wing for a short time and with my "height restrictions" I wasn't as comfortable with the long arm reach. And besides all the "stuff" on it was defiantly not me.

I owned 3 Kaw 750 twins (all basically the same bike) over the span of 20 yrs., so you can probably say they were my favorite. They were a lot cheaper to buy than their 4 cylinder brothers and made about 25% less horsepower, but made up for it in dirt simple maintenance and a very broad, usable powerband that would allow me to keep up with my 4 cylinder buddies once I learned how to ride it. Over that 20 yr. span, I had about 200,000 miles collectively on those bikes (my only transportation for the first 5 yrs.), and I never once had to take one of them to a shop for repair. They took a lot of abuse and most repairs were easily accomplished in the garage with a few hand tools. I think the realiabilty of those beasts has spoiled me.

Least favorite was an '83 Harley Sportster. Bought brand new and sold it after six months. Every week I owned it, something else would break. On weekend rides to the mountains with my Honda, Yami and Kaw equipped buddies, it was an embarrasment. I always had to head back early or stop on the side of the road to fix this or that. The quality was not what I was accustomed to. On the bright side, the resale price was just about what I paid for it, so I didn't take a hit financially.

Favorite bike was and still is my 1974 BMW R90S. Fast for its time and fast enough for today. Handling was good for its time and sufficient for today. Brakes were good in its day but could be improved today. Clutch took strength to operate yesterday as it does today. Clutch is only part of bike I didn't like. Mechanically, the R90S is simple to understand and work on. Parts were always readily available.

Commuted with it, toured with it, and raced it. It was and is a good all around bike. In its day, there were specialized bikes that were faster, better handling, and more comfortable. However, there were none that approached the 95% level in all categories (speed, handling, and comfort).

Least favorite bike was a 1976 Yamaha RD400. To be fair, I bought it for racing. The RD400 could give 750 bikes a go for their money. The RD400 had great acceleration and solid handling. At the time, it was one of the few (maybe only) Japanese bikes that had a solid performing frame. However, I never did like the lack of engine braking in the little 2-stroke. On the street, I could never get used to the surging at low throttle openings, not to mention the ring-a-ding-ding sound. That said, it was one of the most popular 2-strokes ever produced.

Interesting, the 77 RD-400 was one of my favorites spent about 5 years on it. I did have a highly modified engine (it got about 25mpg) but it had more thrills then an amusement park!!

This is my least favorite bike because..... well look at it. It performed worse than it looks, if you can believe that.

'74 Indian 100.... not a pic of the one I had, this thing is in much better shape.

It was also my first bike, so it holds a special meaning for me. Like being my favorite..... so far.....

No least favourites, loved them all, but the K1200S BMW has to be the best bike I have ever owned, nuff said. A special place in my heart for my Montessa Cota 349. "Man" you cannot believe what I could do on that bike, it was a major thrill to ride up and down cliff faces, jump over logs and over streams, even up waterfalls. Won my class one year on that bike, special memories.

Don't get me wrong, the RD400 was an excellent bike. It was light and nimble (although maybe a little too light in the front end-too easy to wheelie). Handling was its forte. And yes, there were lots of hop up parts/kits for it at the time. Its just that I'm a 4-stroke kind of guy.

When you get old, 4-strokes are preferable over 2-strokes :oops:
