South Africa's Dragon (with pic's)

Going to God's country at the weekend. I do not know of any one single road that equals the Dragon but the area that we are going is full of mountain passes and excellent sweepers. Big tourist area especially for bikers. Going with a BMW club, will try to post some pics when I get back.

Ok some pics of the trip. they are not great but I hope to give you some sense of the trip.

JHB is 600 kms away from our destination of Barberton. We take all the back country roads as there is very little police prescence , in fact hardly any prescence. Once out of the city we can travel for 60kms at a stretch and not see another vehicle. Our destination is the mountains. The area is several hundreds of square kms of windy roads and mountain passes.

Our group was small but all experianced riders on nothing less than 1150 cc's

I am not going to bore you with the flat roads, but we ran at 180 all the way until we got to the twisty's.

The sign on this road said we were 2500m above sea level.

All in all it was agreat round trip and well worth doing again and again. There is so much road there that you would need two weeks just to cover the popular bits. One road from Sabie to White river is 22kms long and has 63 rights and lefts on it. Thats the one we will try and get the video of.

Those three curves in the pic look pretty damn hardcore! Try to get some video clips, too!

Looks like a wild ride, Paul! I especially like pics six and seven. I have to admit, having not left the country save for a short trip to Canada when I was five, those pics aren't anything like what I pictured South Africa looking like. You could've told me those were pics of Oklahoma or New Mexico and all I would've said was, "What were you doing on the wrong side of the road?!"

Fantastic roads, I have been to S.A. & thought ...."What a great place to explore on a bike:....you lucky person!!

You better watch out! I actually lived in the Central African Republic and Cameroon for a couple of years. And I plan on getting back to the continent one of these days - my in-laws honeymooned in SA and Mozambique and we were this close to joining them for part of the trip.
