good first bike?

#1 Unread post by rpettit16 »

hey everyone im new to the motorcycle world and was trying to find a practical beginner bike thats not super expensive and not something im gonna grow out of in a few months. I at first had my eyes on the yamaha r6 or the suzuki gsx-r but after reading on this site for about 5 minutes i realized that would be a stupid move. I've had plenty of experience on dirt bikes so i was thinking a dual purpose bike would be good to learn on. I also saw a couple people recomend a ninja 500r sports bike which i would much rather get first but dont know for sure if i should. If anyone could recommend some beginner bikes for me that are reasonably priced and maybe have a sporty look to them i would appreciate it. thanks :D

This thread is at the top of the forums. Please read it then let us know if you have any questions. ;)
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

since you have plenty of dirt experiance, don't be afraid of checking out the "grey area" bikes. ie the 650 twins and similar powered bikes. I'd just recomend you keep it under 80 hp, even if you ride jacked 2 strokers. 80 hp on the street and 80 hp from a 2 stroke are 2 totally and completely differant creatures. Or was it 70 hp for the grey area bikes? I forget.

that's what i have, i can't really compare it to any other bike cause it's my first and only bike.....although i dopped it once, (ALWAYS get full coverage), it's been a really good starter bike for me & i have alot of fun riding it. :motorcycle:

....a very important thing they taughtt us at the MSF was that they told us"DO NOT get a bike that intimidates you."

i.e: :motorcycle3:

Have a look at the Hyosung Comet 650. Good price and not so aggresive as some of the other 650's.

There is a 650 cruiser coming too.
I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R
