problem is, the smallest size is size 40, my waist is only around 30 inches, will this jacket be too big for me?

I'd go with those Alter Ego pants from Joe Rocket. They're armored in the knees, and padded in the hips. The fabric is abrasion resistant (so I'm told), and there are parts in the thighs that zip out for ventilation on hot days. They also have zippered legs so if you wear them over other pants you can take them off with ease. The Draggin Jeans seemed ok for sliding on the asphalt, but I have this paranoia about breaking a hip or leg from a fall. If a little neoprene or impact armor might prevent that then count me in.

Blunt force is hard to protect against. Would regular riding pants even protect you from the impact? I'd think they wouldn't work like a helmet (nor could work like a helmet) and fracture when you get in a crash.Be aware that Draggin' jeans are not going to give you much in the way of impact protection.
Have fun on the open /¦\
