Thats hallotta work for an old joke....... If I owned a 1500 Intruder, I would be disappointed that it wasn't a Harley too! The Intruder 1500 is the lowest performing (for engine size), and least ground clearance of any bike that I have ever ridden!

A guy I met at last years toy run (friend of a friend) builds custom bikes. He took a 650savage and pulled the engine. Shoved a 750cc v-twin into the gap, dropped the front, extended the rake, a set of straight pipes, custom paintjob and Hardly-A-Davidson was emblazoned boldly along the side.

Got a lot of complements.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Isn't the S50/intruder 800 basically an 800cc v-twin stuffed into a savage frame?

No. The S50 spawned from the 800 Intruder which spawned from the 750 Intruder(1985...and it was a 700 in the U.S.), before the Savage hatched (1986). Completely different bikes.

The savage is more like a rebel with a 650cc engine then a marauder with smaller engine.
